GRAMMAR: There is - There are

Affirmative:
 
(Singular) There is a table.
(Plural) There are two chairs.



Negative:
 
(Singular) There isn't a table.
(Plural) There aren't two chairs.

 

Questions:
 
(Singular) Is there a table?
(Plural) Are there two chairs?

 

Short answers:
 
(Singular) Yes, there is./No, there isn't.
(Plural) Yes, there are./No, there aren't.
